Teagan felt like an ugly duckling firmly set down in the midst of the palace of a glorious, gold-plated swan. This place was the swankiest restaurant she had ever been in. It didn't boast chandeliers or butlers wearing long tails or anything like that, no. The place was instead totally hip, from its cute tables to its sleek wood floors to the exceedingly well-stocked bar that ran the entire length of the room. But it still screamed money.

Lots and lots of money.

Then again, since it was owned by a bona fide movie star, she supposed it had to scream money. She swallowed down her nerves. Even she had heard of sexy ladies' man Typhon Kade. Savannah liked to swoon over his picture every time she logged into some Hollywood apps she had loaded on her phone, and she sometimes regaled Teagan with his latest exploits involving this or that starlet. Besides, he'd starred as an ancient Viking warrior storming the shores of Ireland in that one movie Teagan had watched, um, a dozen or so times. She might know nothing else of pop culture, but she did know who he was.

She had to admit, deep down beneath her very slightly snobby academic side, she was sort of fangirl impressed that a superstar of his stature was an actual friend of Ash's. This definitely was a whole different level than she was used to. Taking a deep breath, she walked inside, giving the sexy man beside her another sidelong glance as they walked toward a set table near the windows. It was one thing to have been at his mansion and recognized that both it and his collection of rare books were worth fortunes. That didn't actually faze her all that much, considering that she was surrounded by hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of priceless books and artwork every single day at work.

But him picking her up in a super-fancy sports car, then casually telling her he was friends with one of the world's biggest movie stars? Yeah, no. That was another thing entirely. She was definitely awed. This was not the circle she moved in. Ever. At all.

While Ash pulled out her chair for her, she gave him a suitably wide-eyed look. "Okay. Wow. You can get one of Hollywood's most famous actors to close down his entire restaurant for you on a moment's notice? Okay, fine. I'm impressed." She felt her lips curve into a smile. Wait, was she flirting with him? Huh. She was. Maybe Savannah was right. A makeover did wonders for a woman's self-esteem. She felt sort of bold. Almost kind of close to confident.

As she seated herself, Ash leaned in close enough that his mouth was by her ear. "I simply want you to enjoy your evening." The velvet darkness of his voice rolled over her senses. Little goosebumps shivered along her skin as the delicious fluttering somewhere south of her stomach tightened in what seemed like anticipation.
